Pride Wrap Up Multi-Meet Weekend

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Clarke University track and field program wrapped up its third weekend of competition during the outdoor season with the program competing at the Mustang Open at Mount Mercy and the CSB/SJU Invitational & Multi at St. John's in Collegeville, Minn. 

At the Mustang Open, the Pride saw its men and women's team each place seventh out of the 11-team field. The women scored 33 team points, while the men tallied 29. 

Blake Willis led the men on Saturday at the Mustang Open in the triple jump with a mark of 12.26 meters (40' 2.75") to place second, while also setting a personal best in the long jump at 5.99 meters (19' 8"). Teammate Brandon Martin also set a personal best in the event after hitting 6.07 meters (19'11"), placing the sophomore fifth. Willis and Martin teamed up to compete as the second and third legs of the 4x100 meter relay team, which placed seventh after finishing at 45.72. 

Sage Hoyt took fifth in the high jump at a mark of 1.70 meters (5' 7"). Emmett Schwartzhoff set a PR in the 10,000-meter race after coming in sixth with a time of 35:49.63. Junior Daniel Miller took sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after clocking in at 10:56.44, giving himself a new personal best.

Claire Ronnebaum was the top performer on the women's side at the Mustang Open, as the junior recorded a personal best in the javelin after throwing for 32.48 meters (106' 7"). The last time Ronnebaum threw for 100-plus feet in the event came on May 8, 2021, at the Heart of America Outdoor Championships.  

Samantha Kane took third in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.24 meters (132'), followed by Marlie Beauchem in fifth (37.46m/122' 11"). 

Rory Bickler set back-to-back personal bests in the 800- and 1,500-meter races, placing fifth in each event. Bickler crossed the finish line at 2:33.09 in the 800-meter before clocking in at 5:10.93 in the 1,500-meter. 

Sydney Norman placed fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.45 meters (4' 9"). 

Timothy Miller, James Vandun and Emma Grant were the only three Clarke athletes to partake in events at the CSB/SJU Invitational and Multi. 

Miller and Vandun took 10th and 11th in the decathlon, respectively. Miller totaled 4,936 points, a career best. His best placement came in the pole vault, where he finished fourth at 3.85 meters (12' 7.5"). Vandun recorded 4,886 points, with his best performance coming in the long jump, where the Racine, Wis., native finished third after jumping for 6.55 meters (21' 6"). 

Emma Grant placed third in the pole vault, clearing 3.05 meters (10') on her second attempt.
