Pride take the first set but fall 3-1 to William Penn
DUBUQUE, Iowa - In their final home match of the year, the Clarke University women's volleyball team fell in four sets to William Penn University on Tuesday night in the Kehl Center by a 3-1 final score.
A first set 25-22 victory wasn't enough to propell the Pride to a rematch victory over WPU but the Statesmen answered with 25-20, 25-19, and 26-24 set wins to close out the four set match similar to the match in Oskaloosa on Oct. 5 when they won 3-1 after dropping the opening set to CU.
Both teams had two players with double digit kills as William Penn's Katlyn Jeter led the match with 16 kills on 43 swings for a .186 hitting percentage as she added 14 digs for a double-double, one of two Statesmen players with a double-double on the night with setter Emalee Young finishing with 18 assists and 10 digs.
Alyvia Johnson had 10 kills but six errors for a .098 hitting percentage and Patricia De Souza and Jade Melton added a third and fourth offensive option that Clarke couldn't quite match with eight and six kills respectively and only five combined errors on 33 swings.
The Pride's Rachel Haubert finished her final career home match with her fifth double-double in six matches and 13th on the season with 14 kills and 11 digs while hitting .179 as Maya Watters led the team in kills with 15 kills and a .108 hitting percentage and Kelsey NeCollins was efficient on her way to a five-kill night while adding six block assists to finish with eight points scored.
Clarke women's volleyball will finish out their 2024 season with a road match on Tuesday, Nov. 5 when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a 7:00 p.m. CT match against Mount Mercy University.
