Pride suffer three set loss to Park
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Finishing up a weekend of playing three of the top six teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and two teams mentioned in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, the Clarke University women's volleyball team fell to RV Park University on Saturday afternoon 3-0 in the Kehl Center.
The Pirates were able to earn each set win by six or more points at 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19 finishes where they hit for a percentage of .216 or better in all three sets with at least 13 kills and no more than five errors in each set.
PU's efficient attack was led by 11 kills from Daniela Gomez and 10 kills from Izabella Ceratti while they were supported by six kills and no errors from Aly Anderson and five kills from Trinity Iverson with five other members of the Park lineup having at least one kill.
The early parts of the first set stayed tight and a 3-0 run from the Pride made it a 13-11 lead for CU but a lineup change from a two-setter, 6-2, system to a one-setter, 5-1, rotation seemed to turn the tides for the Pirates as they would finish the set 14-6 with Angelina Rodriguez playing full rotation to finish with a match-high 30 assists.
Clarke would finish with 33 teams with a third of those coming from senior Rachel Haubert as she would finish her second-straight match leading the team in kills with 11 while adding 11 digs for her 12th double-double of 2024.
Keely Colyer and Kelsey NeCollins produced at least seven points each with Colyer finishing with six kills and no errors and three block assists while NeCollins went 4-for-6 with no errors on the attack with four block assists and a solo block.
Down senior libero Rylie Bohanan due to illness, the Pride would lean on sophomore Madison Peck as she would produce a season-high 16 digs to lead all players in the match in that category.
Clarke women's volleyball will host one more home match in their 2024 season when they welcome William Penn University to the Kehl Center next Tuesday, Oct. 29 for a 5:00 p.m. CT scheduled first serve between the Pride and Statesmen.
