Pride fall in five sets to Grand View

DUBUQUE, Iowa - In a rematch of a 3-0 defeat on Oct. 4 on the road, the Clarke University women's volleyball team had some revenge on the mind with Grand View University visitng the Kehl Center on Tuesday night but the Vikings would survive an early deficit to win 3-2.

The Pride would play some of their best volleyball of the season early to a 25-19 first set win and a wild 34-32 second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match but GVU would take 25-17 and 25-20 third and fourth sets before scoring the final four points of the fifth and final set to earn a 15-11 win to seal the match.

At various times throughout the match, it felt like a duel between Grand View middle Sydney Beasley and Clarke outside Maya Watters as both finished in the 20s for kills with Beasley right at 20 kills on 39 swings for a .385 hitting percentage, while Watters set a new career-high with 25 kills, the second most kills in a match in CU women's volleyball history, just two off of the record of 27 set by Ashley Shields set in 2010.

Both Beaseley and Watters had plenty of support on the attack with the Vikings also getting 17 kills from Ellie Dougherty, 12 kills from Brooklyn Roder, and 11 kills from Kaylee Stalder while the Pride got separate career-high effort from Keely Colyer, who finished with 16 kills while Rachel Haubert added a 12-kill, 23-dig double-double, tying her career-high in digs, then Kortney Harms added seven kills opposite of Colyer's right side rotation while having a 25-assist, 14-dig double-double herself.

For the third time in her last five matches, senior libero Rylie Bohanan had over 20 digs, with 26 for her second-most of the season as Grand View libero Chevy Wagner-Chun matched Bohanan's output with two more for a match-high 28 digs out of the Vikings' 97 digs as a team in the match.

Clarke women's volleyball will host their final home weekend this week, starting with a Friday night home match in the Kehl Center against Benedictine College for a 7:00 p.m. CT scheduled first serve between the Pride and Ravens.
