Pride suffer 3-0 defeat on the road to William Penn
OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Still in search for that first win in Heart play, the Clarke University women's volleyball team fell short in their second meeting with William Penn University on Saturday night by a final of 3-0.
The Statesmen earned that sweep victory by set scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-11 as the Pride battled through the first two sets but couldn't pull through in each four-point set defeat.
Errors told a bit of the story for Clarke on the night as they gave WPU 38 points on errors between attack errors (25), service errors (10), and ball handling errors (3), which totaled more points than either team had in kills in the match, with CU finishing at a 34-30 advantage on total kills.
The leader in kills for the match was the Pride's Abigail Smith as she ended the three sets with nine kills on 23 swings with only four errors for a .214 hitting percetange. Clarke setter Cora Vyhnanek had a strong outing coming up just a dig short of a double-double while also going a perfect 5-for-5 on attack attempts for a 1.000 hitting percentage.
Clarke women's volleyball will return home for five-straight matches at the Kehl Center for their final five home matches of the 2022 season starting with a Friday night matchup against MidAmerica Nazarene on Oct. 7 for a 7:00 p.m. CT scheduled start.
