
Pride take a set but fall in four sets to Grand View
DES MOINES, Iowa - Starting off a weekend road trip at Grand View University, the Clarke University women's volleyball team was unable to get in the win column as the Vikings took a 3-1 victory on Friday night.
Grand View took the first two sets and the Pride kept their night going with a third set win but Grand View eventually closed out the match as the set scores went by a final of 25-22, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15 in favor of the home team.
Effenciency on the attack was a big determining factor in the match as the Pride finished the night hitting .081 but Grand View was almost over .200 each set and finished at .226 total for the match.
The Vikings were powered on that attack by two strong night from Sydney Beasley and Ellie Dougherty as they combined for 31 of the team's 49 kills and both hit over .280 as Beasley had 19 kills and a .286 hitting percentage whereas Dougherty had 12 kills and only three errors for a .409.
Clarke's combination of Rachel Haubert and Maddy Melvin both finished with 11 kills as Haubert led the efficiency category for XCU with a .214 hitting percentage on 28 swings while Melvin ended the night at .147.
CU women's volleyball will continue their quick road trip with a Saturday evening matchup against William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa for a 6:00 p.m. CT scheduled first serve.
