Volleyball Falls to Benedictine in Three Sets

ATCHISON, Kan. – The Clarke University volleyball team fell in three sets to the Benedictine College Ravens Friday night inside Ralph Nolan Gymnasium. 

Jessica Schaad led Clarke in kills with eight, while Abigail Smith had seven kills to go along with seven digs. Rylie Bohannan was the team leader in digs, finishing with nine. Bohannan hit 1.000, while Lordiss Burton hit .500. Rachel Haubert had four kills and three digs, while Victoria Patnaude finished with three kills. Cora Vyhnanek had 13 assists, while Haubert had three. 

The Ravens used a 9-2 spurt in the opening frame to set the tone and never looked back. The Pride (3-6 overall, 0-2 Heart) rallied to trim the deficit to three at 21-18, but Benedictine closed out the match shortly thereafter to make it 1-0. The Ravens used a 9-3 run in the early goings of the second set to take a lead that it would never surrender, winning the set 25-11. 

The outcome of the third set hung in the balance for a majority of the way, as Clarke led early with a 5-3 lead before going back-and-forth to a 10-all tie. The Pride scored seven-straight to make it a 17-10 match, but the Ravens utilized a 15-5 run to close things out. 

The Pride's road trip continues tomorrow night when the program faces Baker University. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
