Pride can't pull out wins in pair of five set matches against Lawrence Tech and Spring Arbor
UPLAND, Ind. - Looking to bounce back in Saturday's action at the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament, the Clarke University women's volleyball team dropped two five-set matches against Lawrence Tech and Spring Arbor in the tournament hosted by Taylor University.
The Pride had opportunities to take wins in both but fell just short as the match against Lawrence Tech went by scores of 17-25, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, and 18-16 in favor of the Blue Devils then the match against Spring Arbor finished at 21-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-17, and 15-13 in favor of the Cougars.
Saturday continued strong play from CU outside hitter Rachel Haubert as she finished as the match leader in kills in both matches for Clarke with 17 against Lawrence Tech and 16 against Spring Arbor while finishing with only 12 errors in 94 total swings on the ball for a day's hitting percentage of .223 over the 10 sets.
She also ended each match with a double-double with 19 digs against the Blue Devils and 11 digs against the Cougars as other members of the Pride to finish matches with double-doubles were setter Cora Vyhnanek who had 34 assists and 12 digs in the first match then 39 assists and 13 digs in the second match as she added eight kills against Lawrence Tech to finish two kills away from a triple-double then Jessica Schaad had 15 kills and 17 digs against Spring Arbor.
Clarke libero Rylie Bohanan had a busy day on the back row as she totaled 38 digs over both matches while adding three assists also in each match.
Pride women's volleyball will be off from official action until next Friday, Sept. 2 when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa to face Iowa Wesleyan and Mount Marty part of a tournament hosted by William Penn before hosting their Heart of America Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Kehl Center against Culver-Stockton College.
