Pride women's volleyball earns four set win at Peru State

PERU, Neb. - A week that was important for the Clarke University women's volleyball team in terms of the Heart of America regular season standings finished with a much-needed win against Peru State College in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

The Pride had the chance for a sweep after taking the first two set but the Bobcats took the third set before CU put it away in the fourth with set scores of 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, and 25-22.

It was a better and more efficient game on the attack than the previous night as Clarke finished the match with a .160 team hitting percentage with no sets finishing in the negatives in that category for either team.

Amber Cooksley and Gianna Garza had the standout performances of the match with 16 and 14 kills respectively as the tandem combined for 82 of the team's 144 total attacks in the match. Both Cooksley and Garza finished with double-doubles in the match with 19 digs for Garza and 12 digs for Cooksley with Kali Milder finishing the match as the third and final player for the Pride having double-digit digs at 11.

Maddy Melvin (6), Jaida Kroning (5), Rebecca Schroeder (5), and Brittney Mundell (2) added the depth on the attack for CU with Schroeder and Mundell combined for six blocks as well.

The Pride will return home for their next two matches on Oct. 19 and Oct. 22 next week before playing their final non-conference match next Saturday at St. Ambrose.
