Clarke women's volleyball splits pair of road matches in Missouri Valley
MARSHALL, Mo. - Away from the homecoming festivities on the Clarke University campus Saturday, the women's volleyball team earned a Heart of America Athletic Conference win against Missouri Valley College and also fell to Bethany College.
In their 3-2 win over the Vikings, CU won sets two, four, and five to finish the match with set scores of 23-25, 25-15, 15-25, 25-21, and 15-12. The 3-1 loss to the Swedes, Clarke took the second set but fell in four with final set scores fo 25-19, 12-25, 25-12, and 25-14 in favor of Bethany.
Combined in the matches Maddy Melvin finished with 21 total kills in the nine total sets, with 11 in the win against Missouri Valley and 10 in the loss to Bethany. Amber Cooksley (17), Gianna Garza (14), Rebecca Shroeder (13), and Jaida Kroning (12) all also finished with double-digit kills over the two matches.
Alana Cooksley, Cora Vyhnanek, and Madison Blohm all had 20 or more assists in a single match as Vyhnanek and Cooksley split time against Missouri Valley with Blohm getting the majority of the setting work against Bethany. Cooksley finished the MVC match with a double-double finishing with 20 assists and 11 digs while also adding five aces on the serve. Vyhnanek had a near double-double with 26 assists and eight digs and Blohm finished with 23 assists against the Swedes.
Pride women's volleyball will finish a four-match road swing with a match on Tuesday, Sept. 28 in Oskaloosa, Iowa against William Penn University at 7 p.m. CT.
