Pride sweep their way to first win of 2021 over Roosevelt
CHICAGO, Ill. - In their third of seven-straight matches away from Dubuque to start the 2021 season, the Clarke University women's volleyball team earned their first win of the year in a 3-0 sweep over Roosevelt University on Tuesday night.
The Pride earned their set wins by scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-20 to break their streak of six-straight set losses to start the year after their two losses last Saturday. CU had 33 team kills compared to just 20 for Roosevelt as the Lakers also had 20 errors on the match for a hitting percentage of .000 compared to Clarke's .130 as a team.
Leading the way individually on the offensive categories was Amber Cooksley as the senior continues her strong start to the season after her 12-kill effort moved her season total to 35 on the season. Cooksley got her 12 kills in 30 attacks with eight errors for a .133 attack percentage while adding eight digs and four aces.
Maddy Melvin and Rebecca Schroeder both added seven kills in support of Cooksley's 12 with Jaida Kroning also adding five kills on 13 attempts. Schroeder was extemely efficient from the middle with no errors on 12 attacks for a final hitting percentage of .583.
Up next for the Pride will be a three-match tournament in Sioux City, Iowa on Friday and Saturday starting with a match against host Briar Cliff University on Friday at 7 p.m. CT followed by a pair of matches on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Waldorf University and at 3 p.m. against University of Northwestern.
