Women's volleyball drops pair of matches to Rochester and Judson in 2021 opening slate
ELGIN, Ill. – Saturday afternoon's doubleheader of matches for the Clarke University women's volleyball team went the way of their opponents as Rochester and Judson each earned 3-0 wins over the Pride.
The set scores against the Warriors went 29-27, 26-24, and 25-17 as the Eagles took their three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-21. The first match loss to Rochester came after CU held set leads as late as the 24th point in the first set and the 19th point in the second set but RU was able to pull out set wins on their way to a sweep.
Amber Cooksley was the main offensive threat for the Pride on the day as she finished with a match-high 17 against Rochester and tied for the team-high with six kills against Judson. Cooksley added double digit digs in each match recording a double-double after her 19 digs against Rochester and added 10 more digs against Judson.
Gianna Garza and Maddy Melvin had eight and seven kills respectively against Rochester and Danika Griffin tied Cooksley's six against Judson as the top supportive efforts for CU on the day.
The two Clarke foes each had double-digit kill efforts on the day as Rochester got 12 kills from Taylor Butkiewicz and Judson got 13 kills from Mackenzie Ebert.
The Pride will head back to Illinois on Tuesday for a match in Chicago, Ill. against Roosevelt University on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. CT.
