Catchur's game-winner leads to Heart Player of the Week honor
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following their program-best tying 12th win of the season last week, Clarke University women's soccer earned their third Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week this season as senior Morgan Catchur was named the Heart Offensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
This is the first weekly honor for the senior from Valparaiso, Ind., who is a two-time All-Conference honoree, as she was able to score the game-winning goal for the Pride over Grand View last Thursday in a 2-1 win where she took an Emily Marino throw-in and fired it into the back of the net in the 65th minute to make it the eventual final of 2-1.
That was the fifth goal of the season for Catchur, who had entered the season with five career goals as she was recently moved off of a holding midfield position where she had played for most of her 74 career games played to a more attacking role, even playing as high as striker in recent moments.
Of Catchur's five goals this season, four have come as game-winning goals and two of those have come in the second half of games, most notably an 80th-minute goal to break a scoreless tie between Clarke and Graceland on Pride women's soccer senior day.
This is the third Heart weekly honor of the season for CU women's soccer as Catchur joins goalkeeper Faith Krapfl, who received Defensive Player of the Week in the Heart in back-to-back weeks as she received the honor on Sept. 23 and Sept. 30.
The Pride will host their first home Heart Tournament game after finishing 12-3-3 overall and 8-2-1 in conference play to earn the No. 4 seed to face No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene University in a rematch of the Clarke Homecoming game where CU came out on top 3-1.
That game at Burrows Field will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m. CT between the Pioneers and Pride.
