Pride score twice in the second half to get 2-0 win at Mount Mercy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Looking to notch their first win in three weeks, the Clarke University women's soccer team was able to get to the double digit win mark for the sixth-straight season with a 2-0 win on the road against Mount Mercy University on Tuesday night.

Facing a Mustangs squad that played a defensive formation and content with playing in their defensive half for the majority of the game, the Pride outshot MMU 15-2 over the entirety of the game with the only two shots against CU keeper April Lashomb coming in the second half.

Clarke was able to get on the board with their first goal coming off of the foot of Jamie Albertson in the 70th minute as the fifth-year senior lobbed a high-arcking ball into the box as Shannon Catchur put pressure on Mount Mercy keeper Grace Byers as the ball went off of the hands of Byers and into the back of the net for Albertson to get credit for her fourth goal of the season.

Nearly 12 minutes later, the Pride earned a corner kick that would be sent in by Albertson as well for the ball to ricochet off of a Mustang defender's leg into the net to be credited with an own goal but give CU a little more cushion in the final nine minutes of the game.

With one game remaining in the regular season, the Pride clinch a spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-4-1 record in the league, also moving to 10-4-3 overall.

Clarke women's soccer will finish up the regular season on the road when they travel to No. 4 Central Methodist on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. CT kickoff at Fayette, Mo. against the Eagles.
