Late goal lifts Park over Pride 2-1 on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa – In the final home game of the season for the Clarke University women's soccer team, the Pride were unable to defeat the Park University Pirates in a 2-1 loss Saturday afternoon at Burrows Field.

After being tied at 1-1 since the 29th minute in the first half, Cecilie Esbak Pedersen of the Pirates dealt Clarke heartbreak in the 88th minute when she scored her third of the season to put themselves in the lead and eventually the final score at 2-1.

It was fitting that a senior scored the lone goal for the Pride as Jamie Albertson found the back of the net in the 29th minute to even the score at one apiece just nine minutes after the Pirates leading goal scorer Patrycia Kozak put Park up 1-0.

Albertson was also the Pride's leader in shots attempted with five in her 79 minutes of game action. Senior Shannon Catchur attempted three shots along with her sister, junior Morgan Catchur.

Unable to figure out how to beat Pirate starting goalie Felicitas Mueller, the Pride peppered her with a 17-5 shot advantage and she finished with seven saves on her way to her sixth win.

In net for the Pride, Faith Krapfl started her first game since Aug. 22nd in Viterbo. Tonight, however, Krapfl made two saves in her 90 minutes of game time.

The Pride women's soccer team will look to get back on track next Saturday, Oct. 21st on the road against Missouri Valley beginning at 1:00 P.M. CST.
