DUBUQUE, Iowa – Winning their fifth consecutive game and remaining unbeaten, the Clarke University women's soccer team (7-0-2) defeated William Penn University 3-0 on a beautiful Tuesday evening at Burrows Field.
Scoring her second of the year late in the first half, freshman Itzel Parga was fed perfectly by Shannon Catchur in the 42nd minute to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. Earlier in the half, both teams would have scoring opportunities wiped away with offsides, which included a would-be Statesmen goal in the 23rd minute.
The final two Pride goals were scored five minutes apart, with the first coming in the 81st minute when Jamie Albertson got a foot on a Brie Cote free kick that entered the penalty area for her second on the year. The final tally came in the 86th minute when the current Heart Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Hope Ward beat the Statesmen keeper off the corner from Albertson, making it her fourth goal.
Picking up the shutout and her fifth win already this season, April Lashomb played all 90 minutes and stopped three shots. On the other side, William Penn went with junior Madeline Danielson, who has started every game thus far and falls to 3-3. Danielson played the full game and made six saves.
The undefeated Pride will take on the Baker Wildcats on Saturday, September 23rd beginning at 5:00 pm.
