Two second half goals secure a 3-1 Pride victory over Judson University
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Scoring for the second straight game, Pride women's soccer senior Shannon Catchur scored twice on Saturday evening to secure the 3-1 victory over a non-conference opponent, Judson University.
Catchur would score her first at just under the five-minute mark in the first half, finishing the corner kick off the foot of freshman Brie Cote for her second assist through the first three games. Catchur's second goal of the game would prove to become the eventual game-winner as she wouldn't miss the penalty kick opportunity in the 78th minute to give the Pride a 2-1 lead.
After only playing in seven games a year ago with one goal, Eagle senior Josett Perez scored her third goal of the season to even the score at 1-1 in the 50th minute.
Scoring her first career Pride goal in the 85th minute was fellow senior Bailey Wiemann who was able to beat Eagle goalkeeper Eva Fernandez on another penalty kick opportunity.
Fernandez, a Judson freshman hailing from Madrid, Spain picked up her first career loss and finished with eight saves. Those eight saves came from an aggressive Pride attack all evening as they outshot the Eagles 22-10 and had a 6-1 corner kick advantage.
Preventing Judson from scoring until early in the second half, sophomore goalie April Lashomb made her first start on the season finishing with three important saves and earning the win.
The Pride defense kept most of the Eagles' offensive attackers with minimal chances, as the Eagles only had six players record a shot with Perez leading the way with three. Forwards, Yeyahs Macias and Payton Siragusa each had two shots with only one from Macias reaching goal.
The trio of Morgan Catchur, Shannon Catchur, and Samantha Rodriguez each finished with four shots to lead the Pride attack. Pride midfielder, Jamie Albertson had a pair of good opportunities to score her second goal of the year, including a breakaway shot where Fernandez just got a cleat on the ball to force it out of play.
Pride women's soccer will go on the road to play another non-conference opponent, this time in Trinity Christian College on August 31st beginning at 5:00 pm CST.
