Genevieve Cruz earns first Heart Player of the Week behind nine-point performance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second time this season, a Clarke University women's soccer player earned the Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor as Heart officials announced that Pride senior Genevieve Cruz received the weekly honor.

Cruz joins Reese Castanon as the two members of the Pride to gain the weekly honor as Cruz was voted the top offensive player in the conference last week as she scored four goals and added an assist, all in the game against Graceland University last Tuesday night.

The senior from Racine, Wis. leads the Clarke offense in both goals and assists on the season with her seven goals and five assists totaling to 19 points playing at the top of the CU formation with junior Shannon Catchur to create a dynamic one-two punch for Clarke's offense.

In her second season at Clarke, Cruz has already surpassed her goal total of six from last season as she tied for the team lead in goal scoring while finishing second on the team in points as one of only two players with double-digit points scored.

Pride women's soccer will continue on with the Heart regular season through the month of October as they will hit the road this Wednesday for Canton, Mo. to face off with Culver-Stockton College for a 5:00 p.m. CT start.
