Pride Shutout William Penn 3-0

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Clarke University women's soccer team (6-2-1) bounced back from their six-goal loss Saturday evening with a commanding 3-0 win over William Penn (1-4-1) Wednesday evening.

The Pride's first two goals came off penalty kicks from senior Genevieve Cruz and junior Shannon Catchur. Catchur, scored her second goal of the game after a lead pass sent her just in front of the goalkeeper who made a diving attempt, but Catchur was able to sneak it through.

After receiving her first loss on the season Saturday, Pride goalkeeper April Lashomb was credited with two saves while facing a total of seven shots. Tonight's shutout is the freshman's fourth shutout of the season in eight games started.

William Penn had an open net opportunity in the sixth minute when Lilly Cote beat a Pride defender and shot just wide.

After the Cote empty netter opportunity, the Pride would not surrender another opportunity the rest of the first half.

The Pride got on the board in the 38th minute when Genevieve Cruz scored her third goal of the season on a penalty kick. Eleven minutes earlier, Cruz shot a missile that hit the crossbar and the Pride were unable to capitalize on a couple near Statesman errors.

The shots and scoring chances were close to even in the second half with William Penn having more shots 6-4 than the Pride.

Pride senior Jamie Albertson made the most of her minutes off the bench tonight as she finished her evening with two shots, with one hitting the post. A minute after Albertson's post, the Pride continued their offensive momentum, which led to Catchur's two goals in under 3 minutes.

The Pride will be on the road again this Saturday in Atchison, Kansas for a 5:00 pm CT start against Benedictine.
