DUBUQUE, Iowa - Hoping to make a statement in a 2021 Heart Tournament first round rematch, the Clarke University women's soccer team dropped a tough matchup against No. 6 Central Methodist 7-1 at Burrows Field.
The Eagles jumped in front early with a goal in the fourth minute and piled on with two more before the game was 11 minutes in as Sandra Jakobsen scored the opening goal followed by back-to-back strikes by Marcella Helena.
Clarke got a goal back in the 14th minute as senior Jamie Albertson scored her first goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-1 but CMU was able to add another in the 20th minute to regain the three-goal lead by halftime.
Central Methodist would add three more goals in the second half to extend their lead to the eventual final of 7-1 as Clarke would drop their first game since their season opener to move to 5-2-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in Heart play.
The Pride will get ready for a couple of road contests next week starting with a Wednesday evening matchup against William Penn University for a 5:00 p.m. CT start in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
