Early goal from Morales enough for Pride in 1-0 win over Cornell

DUBUQUE, Iowa - In a game that was a dominant showing for the Clarke University women's soccer team, the scoreboard only showed a 1-0 win for the Pride over Cornell College at Burrows Field on Friday night.

The lone goal was scored under a minute into the game as Sofia Morales was able to get behind the defense while receiving a well played through ball from Genevieve Cruz and beat the goalkeeper for a goal in under 1:30 into the game.

Clarke had plenty of chances throughout the game to add onto their lead but couldn't cash in on the remainder of their 27 total shots taken in the 90 minutes with 14 of those going on frame.

Leading the way for CU in the shots category were Samantha Rodriguez and Reese Castanon who both fired five at the goal with both coming very close to scoring but neither finding the back of the net on their five combined shots on goal.

The Pride controlled play for most of the action as they also earned eight corner kicks, four in each half, and only allowed three total shots against with goalkeeper April Lashomb not needing to make a save the entirety of her time in net.

Clarke will now prepare for Heart of America Athletic Conference play with their next game coming against Mount Mercy University on Tuesday, Sept. 13 for a 5:30 p.m. CT scheduled kickoff at Burrows Field.
