MESA, Ariz. - It was not the start the Clarke University women's soccer team was looking for in their 2022 season opening game against Benedictine Mesa as they fell by a final of 3-0 on the road.
Both halves started off with very quick goals from the Redhawks as they opened up the scoring exactly one minute into the game as Dahlia Alonso scored at the 1:00 mark on the scoreboard. Benedictine Mesa had a similarly hot start to the second half as they scored 35 seconds into the second frame Ainsley McMahon got one past CU freshman keeper Faith Krapfl to make it 3-0.
The Redhawks scored their second goal in the first half in the 22nd minute on Alonso netted her second of the game past Krapfl to extend their lead to 2-0 heading into halftime.
Krapfl won the job in net for the Pride early as she made seven saves on the 10 total shots on Friday night in her first collegiate game. Shannon Catchur tried to provide the offense for the Pride as she fired six shots, all of them on goal, but couldn't notch her first points of the year in the opener.
Clarke women's soccer will stay in Arizona for the remainder of the weekend as they'll prepare for their matchup on Sunday morning against Park University Gilbert on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. MST/12:00 p.m. CDT.
