Pride knock off Valor 4-1 on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Thanks to two second half goals from juniors Carley Gylling (JR/Chandler, Ariz.) and Avery Abbas (JR/Altoona, Iowa), the Clarke University women's soccer team ran away with a 4-1 victory over Evangel University on the program's senior day Saturday afternoon at Burrows Field.

The Pride (8-4-1, 3-2-1 Heart) have now won four of the previous five matchups against the Valor (3-10, 0-8), dating back to 2017.

The Pride struck first with a goal scored by Zoe Framke (SR/Sterling, Ill.) in the 41st minute off of an assist by Vaneza Diaz (SO/Gardnerville, Nev.). Evangel evened things up in the 60th minute, but the tie didn't last long as Abbas scored off of a pass from Hannah Sacora (SR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) in the 64th minute to shift things back in the Pride's favor.

Carley Gylling extended the Clarke lead to 3-1 after scoring in the 74th minute off of an assist by Jayden Harrington (SO/Ralston, Neb.). Avery Woldruff (JR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tacked on one final Clarke goal in the game's 82nd minute off of an assist by Noel Koch (SR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa), ending the tilt in a 4-1 victory.

Clarke goalkeeper Abigail Kukuck (SR/Herscher, Ill. ) recorded a save in the first half while Brynlee Ward (SR/Pocatello, Idaho) collected one in the second. Morgan Catchur (FR/Valparaiso, Ind.) led the pride with seven shots, including one that was on goal.

The Pride tallied a total of 29 shots with 14 coming on goal and received five corner kicks on the match while Evangel recorded two shots and two corner kick opportunities.

Clarke honored its 10 senior student-athletes after the game, a group that featured Kukuck, Cruz, Sacora, Framke, Kock, Ward, Macy Boughn (SR/Castle Rock, Colo.), Lindsay Wardlow (SR/Davenport, Iowa), Taylore DeLong (SR/Greendale, Wis.) and Baylee Seaman (SR/Omaha, Neb.).

The Pride will look to extend its win streak with trip to Marshall, Mo., to face Missouri Valley College on Friday, Oct. 15.
