Clarke's Mia Loffer challenging a Benedictine player for a 50/50 ball

Pride's early goal not enough at No. 22 Benedictine earns 5-1 win

DUBUQUE, Iowa - A tough homecoming matchup against an NAIA top-25 team, the Clarke University women's soccer team dropped their Saturday even game against No. 22 Benedictine 5-1 at Burrows Field.

The Pride actually got on the board first as Shannon Catchur scored in the sixth minute as she was able to trickle a ball past Benedictine keeper Oliva Berry. Berry had a slight misplay as she dove at the ball, blocking it with her hands but the ball bounced up and over her to slowly roll over the goal line to make it 1-0 CU.

Unfortunately Clarke couldn't carry that good luck momentum much further as the Ravens scored three times in the first half as Gracie Eckardt scored in the 11th minute, Rachel Beffa scored in the 16th minute, and Madalynn Gill scored in the 39th minute. The second half had two more BC goals from Kourtney Koc in the 53rd minute and another from Beffa in the 56th minute to pull it to the 5-1 final.

Clarke women's soccer will be back in action on Tuesday Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. CT when they face Mount Mercy University on the road in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
