Pride split head-to-head matchup against Loras in match play faceoff

EAST DUBUQUE, Iowa - Mixing up the usual golf event format, the Clarke University golf teams squared off against Loras College in a head-to-head match play event at Lacoma Golf Course on Thursday afternoon where the Pride women took a 4-3 win while the men's matchup resulted in a 5-5 tie where the DuHawks would earn the win on a total holes won tiebreaker.

The win for the CU women came behind matchup wins by Gabby Weyland, Maddie Patten, Allea Stone, and Maya England as both Weyland and Stone had seven-hole leads when their matches came to a close with Stone closing out her match with six holes remaining and Weyland winning 7 and 5.

Patten would earn a 5 and 3 win while England closed out her victory on the 16th hole with a 4 and 2 win as Katherine Whitson, Camdyn Penick, Jessi Wagner, and Halle Boldt all also competed but were unable to win their matchups.

All but two of the men's matchups got through at least 16 holes with the largest Pride win coming from Logan Winn as he went 5 and 4 while Jacob Luett, Francis Resurreccion, Hayden Hoekstra, and Drake Hammel also producing wins as Resurreccion earned a 3 and 2 win on the 16th hole while Luett (2&1), Hoekstra (2&1), and Hammel (3&1) all closed out wins on the 17th hole.

The rest of the Clarke men in Jesse Frye, Alijah Dopson, Jared Martinson, Anthony Eddy, and Mitchel Coffey faced off in their own head-to-head matchups with three of those matches finishing at 3 and 2 as matches stayed close throughout the round.

Clarke golf will get back to traditional stroke play on Sunday and Monday next week when they play at The Meadows in Asbury, Iowa for the Loras Spring Invite.
