Pride finish first spring tournament at Clarke Spring Invite

GALENA, Ill. - Getting back to action officially for the spring portion of the 2022-23 golf season, the Clarke University men's and women's golf team wrapped up their two-day home event in the Clarke Spring Invite on Tuesday afternoon as the men finished tied for third and the women finished in sixth place.

Clarke's men were led by a top-five finish from junior Carter Ruegseggar as he shot matching scores of 75 in each round to finished tied for fourth with a two-day total of 150 as the only scores that were better than 150 were the winning score of 147 and a tie for second with 149. 

The next-lowest score of the tournament from the Pride was from Jesse Frye on day one as he carded a 76 on Monday and followed up with an 88 on Tuesday for a 164 as the third-best individual score for CU as Logan Winn shot a 78 and an 80 to finish tied for 15th in the overall field. Jared Martinson and Francis Resurreccion rounded out the Clarke lineup as Martinson went 83-86=169 and Resurreccion went 87-86=173.

CU's women were highlighted by some career best scores as Camdyn Penick had her career low score on each day with a 122 on Monday and followed it up with a 117 on Tuesday as Maddie Patten also shot her career best in Tuesday's second round with a 127. Gracie Lange's best score from the No. 1 position in the lineup came on Monday as she shot a 118 and the team was led by Halle Boldt's 113-111.

The Pride men's second unit was led by back-to-back scores of 82 from Alijah Dopson, Anthony Eddy went 85-82, Greg Witte went 82-88, Michel Coffey went 90-88, and Vincent Forseth had back-to-back rounds of 91.

Up next for Clarke golf will be when the men compete in the Augustana Invite this Friday and Saturday at Highland Springs Golf Club in Rock Island, Ill. as the women are scheduled to compete next on Apr. 16 at the Loras Spring Invite at The Meadows in Asbury, Iowa.
