Pride golf wraps up two-day Loras Invite with men and Winn placing third

ASBURY, Iowa - For one team, their second-straight day of golf and for another their fourth-straight day with an 18-hole round, the Clarke University golf teams wrapped up a busy weekend at the Loras Fall Invite on Monday at The Meadows Golf Course in Asbury, Iowa.

The first day took place at Woodbine Bend Golf Club in Stockton, Ill. as the Pride men exited Sunday's round in second place with the women's posting their fourth-straight team score to start the season. Logan Winn for the men also was alone in first place after scoring his season low of a 70 (-2) at Woodbine Bend.

Clarke would have a rough day at The Meadows, following up their 310 with a 320 to finish in third place as a team by one stroke behind runner-up Coe College with University of Dubuque running away with the team win by 24 strokes over Coe and 25 over Clarke.

Winn would still end the tournament in a tie for third place individually with his score of 70-82 totalling 152 (+8), finishing three strokes behind the leaders Brad Buechel and Matt McQuillen from University of Dubuque as the teammates saw McQuillen earn a win in a one-hole playoff.

Behind Winn's final score, Carter Ruegsegger had another top-10 finish with his 77-78 totalling 155 (+11) to finish tied for fifth, Jared Martinson carded matching scores of 80 to end the tournament at 160 (+16), Alex McLeland scored 83 at Woodbine and 81 at The Meadows to finish at 164 (+20), and Jesse Frye finished with an 84-81=165 (+21) to round out the top five for the Pride.

CU's second unit saw Francis Resurreccion finish atop their leaderboard with an 81-82=163 (+19), Anthony Eddy started the tournament with a 79 and finished with an 86 to total 165 (+21), Greg Witte scored 83-87=170 (+26), Alijah Dopson carded an 83 followed by an 88 for a total of 171 (+27), and Mitchel Coffey went 90-99=189 (+45). Landon Joneson was the lone individual to compete for the Pride outside of their two teams on Sunday and Monday as he finished at 81-88=169 as the top placing individual tied for 29th.

The Pride women weren't able to have four players complete the two rounds as Halle Boldt and Camdyn Penick were the two member of the Clarke team to complete the two rounds following Gabby Weyland and Gracie Lange needing to withdraw on the second day.

Clarke golf will head up to New Glarus, Wis. and Edelweiss Chalet CC for the Match Play at the Chalet event before the men return to stroke-play action next Monday and Tuesday at the St. Ambrose Invite at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
