Pride wrap up Heart Championships in fourth place

DES MOINES, Iowa - Finishing up their two-day Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, the Clarke University women's bowling team completed the elimination bracket portion of the tournament with a fourth place finish.

CU entered Sunday's bracket portion of the event also in fourth place after the Baker games during Saturday's competition where they scored 4,493 and were matched up against Culver-Stockton for the first round of bracket play.

Prior to the start of the first round, senior Mackenzie Blagojevic earned All-Conference honors as she finished as one of five members of the All-Heart Second Team.

Proceeding into the bracket matches, the Pride swept Culver-Stockton in their first head-to-head matchup to move on in the winner's bracket with a 3-0 win over the Wildcats and advance to the winner's bracket semifinals against No. 1 seed Baker.

Baker would earn a 3-1 win over the Pride to knock CU down into the loser's bracket where they would eliminate Peru State from the tournament with another 3-0 win before falling in five games to Grand View to get knocked out in fourth place.

Baker was able to pull off the Heart championship with a 3-2 win over William Penn in the first of two possible championship matches.

Clarke women's bowling will now wait to see if the team or any individuals get selected for more postseason competition heading into the month of March.
