Pride fall in road matchup against Missouri Valley
MARSHALL, Mo. - After a uniquely long break due to a Wednesday cancelation, the Clarke University women's basketball team got back to work on the road against Missouri Valley College as they would suffer a 94-62 loss to the Vikings on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride couldn't overcome a rough start as they would be outscored 26-13 in the first quarter and would go on to lose every quarter by at least five points with MVC finishing the game shooting 39-for-63 (61.9%) from the field compared to CU's 23-for-67 (34.3%) performance.
The Vikings would hit nine of their 20 three point attempts to shoot 45 percent from deep compared to Clarke going just 4-for-19 (21.1%) from long range as Missouri Valley's Ylenia Exposito led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-8 (87.5%) shooting from the field and hitting two triples of her three attempts from deep.
Clarke's Zoe Kennedy would finish with 17 points on 7-of-11 (63.6%) shooting while adding six rebounds and four assists while the post tandem of Sydni Morris (11) and Reese Ryan (8) had 19 points combined as the 11 points from Morris would end up being the only other member of the Pride in double figures.
Clarke women's basketball will make up their game against Culver-Stockton College on Monday, Feb. 10 after it was originally scheduled for last Wednesday but moved due to potential icy road conditions with tip in Canton, Mo. scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
