Morris' efficient afternoon not enough for Pride in 90-75 loss at MNU
OLATHE, Kan. - Getting back to conference play after a brief non-conference detour, the Clarke University women's basketball team suffered a 90-75 road loss to MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon.
Not the lone reason for the result, but the Pride sufferd another rough quarter in Heart of America Athletic Conference play as they were outscored 26-12 in the second quarter to take a two-point game after 10 minutes of action to a 16-point deficit for CU at 49-33 going into the locker rooms at halftime.
Staying within two possessions for most of the second, MNU was able to finish out the final 4:02 of the first half on a 14-3 run that shortened down to an 11-1 run over the final 3:22 as the Pride missed their final three field goals of the half and turned the ball over three times to close out the second.
Five members of the Pioneer lineup finished in double figures led by Keona Schenck's game-high 20 points on 9-of-12 (75%) shooting from the field as she added seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals for an MNU team that shot 30-for-60 (50%) from the field as a team.
Clarke's Sydni Morris only missed on of her eight shots from the field on her way to leading the Pride with 16 points while Josie Potts and Zoe Kennedy added 13 and 11 points respectively and combined for 10 assists with Maci Kuchta producing nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Pride women's basketball will have a quicker than normal turnaround from the usual post-Saturday game schedule as they'll play their second-straight home Monday night game when William Penn University visits the Kehl Center on Monday, Feb. 3 for a 5:30 p.m. CT tip against the Statesmen.
