Pride win second-straight to start 2024-25 with 13-point victory at Waldorf
FOREST CITY, Iowa - Continuing the beginning of their 2024-25 with their second-straight road game, the Clarke University women's basketball team moved to 2-0 with a 69-56 victory over Waldorf University on Wednesday night.
The Pride were led by a bounce back performance from Hailey Walters as the Sauk Valley Community College transfer answered an 0-for-8 three-point performance in their opener last Thursday with a team-high 23 points on 9-of-16 (56.3%) shooting from the field and 5-of-11 (45.5%) shooting from deep while adding seven rebounds.
After outscoring the Warriors in both the first and second quarters, CU would see their lead that was as large as 10 points twice in the half cut to a two-point game in the third at 43-41 with about four and half minutes remaining in the quarter before Clarke would enter the fourth up six ponits at 50-44.
The closest WU would get in the final 10 minutes was a four-point game as the Pride would go on a 14-0 run to take a 52-48 game with 8:50 remaining to a 66-48 CU lead with four minutes left behind five from Sydni Morris, five from Walters, three from Zoe Kennedy, and two from Josie Potts on their way to cruise to the victory.
Morris recorded her second-straight double-double to start the season as she produced 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while Potts produced her second-straight double figure scoring game off the bench going 2-for-6 (33.3%) from three point range while adding three assists.
Kennedy stuffed the stat sheet despite not finishing in double figures in any category with eight points, eight assists, six rebounds, and two steals while the trio of Audree Peck, Maci Kuchta, and Camdyn Kay all added five points with Peck grabbing five rebounds, Kuchta producing six assists, four rebounds, and three steals, the Kay shot 2-of-3 from the field and 1-for-1 from deep.
The game's leading scorer was Waldorf's Brooke Dial who scored 24 points on 10-of-17 (58.8%) shooting from the field with the only other double figure scorer for the Warriors was Edosa Ogbemudia who added 13 points on 5-of-11 (45.5%) shooting from the field.
Clarke women's basketball's next game will be the start of Heart of America Athletic Conference play and their first home game when they host Graceland University at the Kehl Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13 with a 5:30 p.m. CT scheduled start time.
