Pride pass overtime test again with nine-point win at Mount Mercy
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the second-straight Wednesday night, the Clarke University women's basketball team would go into overtime to win a Heart of America Athletic Conference game as they outlasted Mount Mercy University 85-76 in Cedar Rapids.
Being down as many as eight points in the first half, the Pride would storm back to take a one-point lead into halftime as the game would remain tight for the rest of regulation until CU grabbing an eight-point lead at 63-55 with just under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
This time it would be a Mustangs comeback in the final stretch where they would tie the game with just about three seconds left on a Madison Dreckman jumper to tie the game at 66-66 and send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Dreckman would give MMU an early two-point advantage before Madison Lindauer would take over, mainly from the free throw line, knocking down all 10 of her free throw attempts in overtime while hitting a shot from the field to score 12 of the team's 19 and 12 of her 14 points in the game in overtime.
Lindauer was one of five members of the Pride to score in double figures as Nicole McDermott led the scoring efforts at 20 on 7-of-14 shooting from the field while adding eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Taylor Haase had a 15-point, 12 rebound, double-double, Taylor Norris scored 15 points off the bench, and Mya Merschman had 10 points.
Dreckman was one of four Mount Mercy players in double figures as she and Malie Marfil scored 17 points as Dreckman also had 17 rebounds for a double-double of her own while Anais Bonnemaison and Madison Skelton added 10 points each for the Mustangs.
Clarke women's basketball will return home for three-straight games in the Kehl Center starting with a Saturday matchup against Park University for a 12:00 p.m. CT tip between the Pirates and Pride.
