Clarke's Taylor Haase attempting a layup

Pride drop school record 114 points in win over Bethel (Ind.)

MARION, Ind. - Coming off of their second loss of the season, the Clarke University women's basketball team responded in a big way on Saturday with a strong 114-93 win over Bethel University (IN) in Marion, Ind.

The 114 points is a school record for CU since the school began giving out scholarships for basketball as they shot 52.3 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range, and had four players in double figures. This performance comes following their worst offensive performance of the season against No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan yesterday where they scored 51 points on 36.5% shooting from the field.

It was a pair of sophomores that led the way offensively for the Pride as forward Taylor Haase scored a game-high 30 points and not far behind was Nicole McDermott with 29 points. It was career-highs in points totals for both as they both grabbed seven rebounds while McDermott finished with four assists and three steals as well.

Haase was a force in the paint, going 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the field while also shooting 15 free throws in the game to make 10. The other two players in double figures for CU were Emma Kelchen and Hannah Ambrosy as Kelchen finished with a double-double at 14 points and 15 rebounds along with blocking three shots while Ambrosy's 10 points was also a career high as she saw 20 minutes of action on the floor to add five steals and three assists.

Freshmen Isabel Manning and Mya Merschman both added nine points off the bench as Merschman also grabbed eight rebounds while Manning added three boards.

"This game was a test of toughness," head coach Courtney Boyd said. "We needed to bounce back from the loss yesterday where we didn't play our brand of basketball. This is a true team win, we weathered the game of runs and played as a team today."

With the win, Boyd earned her 100th win as a head coach with 95 at Clarke as she earned five wins prior to her time leading the Pride.

"I had no idea it was for 100 wins," Boyd said. "The reason I coach is because my staff and players make it worth it every day. The family that has been created here is one of a kind, and that's why today's win feels more special."

Clarke women's basketball will have two days away from game action before they will head back east to a closer destination of Judson University in Elgin, Ill. for a 5:00 p.m. CT matchup with the Eagles.
