Pride fall in both ends of doubleheader at Peru State

PERU, Neb. - On a quick turnaround following their home split on Monday, the Clarke University softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader at Peru State College on Tuesday afternoon with 10-4 and 11-5 final scores.

Both games had different journeys to similar results as the Bobcats opening the first game up on a 7-0 lead through three innings and were able to hold on to that lead and in the day's finale, PSC trailed the Pride 3-0 in the third and 4-2 in the fifth before putting up a six-run bottom of the fifth inning and three-run bottom of the sixth to pull away with the sweep.

CU's Lindsey Herrmann led the hitting efforts at the plate as the only member of the Pride with multiple hits in both games finishing with a total of five hits in eight at bats while driving in two runs and scoring another in game two.

Though it wasn't her day in the circle, Malarie Huseman had three hits on the day as one of four other players for Clarke with a multi-hit game on the day as she went 2-for-4 in game two with an RBI. Lily King had a two-hit game in the leadoff spot in the opener with Izriah Hodson and Genesis Andino-Cabrera both going 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two.

Peru State's Payton Beckmann had a strong day at the top of the order for the Bobcats as she finished with five hits, four runs scored, and five RBIs overall between the two games. In both games, the PSC starting pitchers in Alana Krieser and Cheyenne Leach went the distance despite both allowing double digit hits to CU as they would prevail in the long run of the games to pull off wins.

Clarke softball will return to Dubuque to prepare for a weekend road trip against teams in the Heart South Division in MidAmerica Nazarene University and Park University this Friday and Saturday respecitvely.
