Pride fall to Mount Mercy to end homestand

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Finishing off a stretch of eight-straight home matches, the Clarke University men's volleyball team fell on a Tuesday night matchup to Mount Mercy University in the Kehl Center by a 3-0 final.

Mount Mercy earned their set wins by at least five points or more to finish the sweep win at scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19.

Both teams had consistent nights on the attack with the Mustangs holding the clear advantage offensively hitting for a team percentage of .364 compared to .147 for CU as the Pride had five hitting errors in each set and MMU had four hitting errors in each set but at least five more kills than Clarke in each set.

Justin Hernandez led the Pride with 12 kills as the only member of the team in double figures with Anthony Ramirez finishing with five kills Eduardo Hernandez at three, and Zachary Barr ending the match at two.

Three members of the Mount Mercy squad had standout matches led by a match-high 14 kills from Brian Lynch as he also hit .565 from the right side with Kevin Fiedler and Douglas Fofano providing the support offense at nine and eight kills respectively.

Pride men's volleyball will hit the road for the first time since Feb. 1 when they travel to western Iowa to face Dordt University at 7:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 28 for CU's first Heart match against the Defenders in DU's first season in the Heart this year.
