Pride open Pilot Invitational with 3-0 loss to Calumet

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - In day one of a two-day tournament hosted by Bethel University (Ind.), the Clarke University men's volleyball team fell in three sets to Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday night in Mishawaka, Ind.

The Crimson Wave took advantage in various offensive categories, most notably on the serve finishing the match with 19 aces compared to just one for the Pride while also having 18 more kills than CU at 33-15 for Calumet on their way to a 25-18, 25-15, 26-24 win.

That tight third set saw a good amount of the points come off of the hands of Calumet players as they committed 10 attacking errors and seven service errors as a Francis Hauze error by the Crimson Wave led to a timeout at 24-24 as they finished the match with an Ethan Dawson kill and a aces 18 and 19 of the match for Calumet on the serve of Hauze.

Hauze led the match with nine kills with the Clarke leader on the offensive side being Justin Hernandez who had seven of the Pride's 15 kills on the night with Eduardo Hernandez and Anthony Ramirez had four and three kills respectively.

The Pride will continue their weekend in Mishawaka as part of the Adidas Game-One Pilot Invitational on Saturday when they face Lawrence Tech in the morning at 10:00 a.m. ET/9:00 a.m. CT then take on the hosts of Bethel at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT before returning home.
