Road loss at William Penn ends Pride men's volleyball's 2023

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Capping a 2023 season off on the road, the Clarke University men's volleyball team fell in a three set match to Heart of America Athletic Conference foe William Penn University 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Pride finished their season with an 8-17 record for the most wins CU men's volleyball has earned under head coach Elle Kosciuk as their 5-13 Heart record will keep them out of the running for a Heart Tournament with a seventh place finish in the league.

As for the match, Clarke couldn't find success offensively, finishing each set with six errors and a hitting percentage at .120 or lower while the Statesmen had a .417, .333, and .520 to win the sets 25-15, 25-16, and 25-14.

Clarke's leader in kills was sophomore Justin Hernandez, who finished with eight kills on 24 swings with four block assists as middle Stephen Lewandowski had five kills on nine swings while adding six total blocks.

William Penn's attack was led by a pair of 12-kill performances from Charlie Figy and Landon Krause as Ike Papes added 11 just behind Figy and Krause.

Pride men's volleyball will head into the offseason with the expectations of returning all but one player from the 2023 roster, looking to build on three consecutive seasons of improved win totals.
