
Shorthanded Pride fall in five to Edgewood
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Following a week off from competition, the Clarke University men's volleyball team dropped their home match Tuesday night 3-2 to Edgewood College.
The Pride pulled out a pair of close sets in the first and second but Edgewood was able to take the final three sets as the set scores ewnt 26-28, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, and 18-16 in favor of the Eagles.
The pair of Christopher Kahler and Gavin Patterson finished with double-digit kills for the Eagles as Kahler led all players with 18 kills but added 10 errors on 45 attempts for a .178 hitting percentage on the night. Patterson added 13 kills and 14 digs defensively for a double-double on the night, adding a pair of blocks for 14.5 points.
CU was led on the attack by Tye Ojala's 16 kills as he was the only member of the Pride to finish in double figures while he added eight digs and three blocks for 18 points in the match. Clarke was down a pair of starters in middle blocker Stephen Lewandowski and libero Nick Palatine as Michael Jenkins only saw action in two of the five sets, with one set being at the libero position.
Setter Erik Schmidt finished with a double-double of his own at 36 assists and 10 digs with Anthony Metoyer playing a majority of the match at libero to finish with a team-high 12 digs in the match.
Up next for the Pride will be a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference matches on the road this Friday and Saturday when they get set to face No. 11 Missouri Baptist on Friday and University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Saturday.
