Pride open road trip with 3-2 win over Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - In their third game of the 2022 season, the Clarke University men's volleyball team earned their second win of the season as they earned a hard fought 3-2 win over Dordt University on the road Friday night.

Similar to their season opening win, the Pride were able to win the second, third, and fifth sets as the match went by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 16-25, and 15-13 to move CU to a 2-1 record early on.

Clarke had to battle through some offensive struggles as they hit for a negative percentage in both the third and fourth and fortunately for CU, the Defenders also hit for a negative percentage in the third to help the Pride earn that two-point set win.

Throughout the entire match, Dordt had more kills than Clarke at a 53-34 advantage but they also committed more errors combined between the attack and serve in the match at 58-41 to keep CU scoring without needing to put kills away.

Individually, the Defenders had the top three leaders in kills in the match as Luke Nelson, Brady Frost, and Andres Guzman has 17, 13, and 12 kills respectively but Frost and Guzman combined for 25 errors on 74 total attempts between the two.

For the Pride, Michael Jenkins and Montez Thompson had 10 and nine kills respectively to lead the way as they struggled from an efficiency standpoint but that's where Stephen Lewandowski picked up some slack as the middle went 6-for-10 with only one error for a .500 hitting percentage.

Clarke men's volleyball will be back on the court in Western Iowa on Saturday afternoon when they face Morningside College at 1:00 p.m. CT in Sioux City, Iowa.
