Pride track and field opens February at Walter Cramer Invite

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - Heading into the weekend with just two more indoor meets left before the Heart of America Conference Championships, the Clarke University track and field teams produced some notable individual marks at the Walter Cramer Invite on Friday.

The best mark of note came on the men's side as sprinter Gavayne Smith added another CU record to his career, setting the new indoor 200-meter dash record with a time of 22.33, finishing the race in fourth place.

Outside of Smith, the Pride recorded six other top-five event finishes with the lone event victory coming in the high jump as Tyler Kell and Daniel Adams both cleared 1.92 meters as Kell got over the height in fewer attempts than Adams to secure the win over his teammate.

Josh Musonda and Noah Church also produced second place finishes with Musonda clocking in at 50.99 in the 400 meters while Church finished the 3000-meter racewalk with an official time of 19:12.89 with the final top-five on the men's side coming from Brandon Martin's fourth place finish in the long jump as he finished with a best jump distance of 6.30 meters.

On the women's side, the best finish came from Megan Hageman's mile run as the freshman finished with a third place time of 5:27.95 as the Pride women also produced a handful of marks just outside of the top-five including Gabrielle Dillard's 8.08-second 60-meter dash time in sixth place, Annemarie Korner's seventh place 9.94 in the 60-meter hurdles, Samantha Fowler's sixth place at 1:02.43 in the 400 meters, Emma Grant's sixth place in the pole vault with a best clear of 3.02 meters, and Kayley Crain's triple jump sixth place of a 10.01 meters.
