Pride post third-straight shutout, open conference play with 1-0 win over Graceland

LAMONI, Iowa - Having to battle through an early weather delay, the Clarke University men's soccer team was able to come away with a 1-0 win against Graceland University on Saturday night.

Early in the first half, lightning caused a delay that would keep both teams off of the field for a significant amount of time after only being on the field for about 10 minutes of action.

Once play resumed, the game remained scoreless for the majority of the first half until Daniel Valverde was able to score his first goal of the season in his first game action of the season on assists from Tuesday's goal scorer Lucas Bordini and Hector Medrano also got an assist on the play.

The Yellowjackets had the majority of the opportunities on offense as they took 11 shots to just five from CU and had seven corner kicks, all in the second half, with Clarke only being awarded one corner in the entirety of the game.

Getting the call to start on Saturday after not getting any action in the non-conference finale, Marc Ibanez saved all three shots on goal that he faced as each one came in the first half for the first career shutout for the freshman from Spain.

Clarke men's soccer will return home to host their first Heart of America Athletic Conference game at Burrows Field this season when they welcome in the No. 14 ranked Statesmen of William Penn University for a 5:30 p.m. CT kickoff on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
