Bordini scores second half game winner as Pride take down Spartans

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In their final non-conference matchup of the season, the Clarke University men's soccer team notched their second-straight clean sheet with a 1-0 victory over Missouri Baptist University on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

A fairly evenly matched game on the statsheet, the Pride were able to break through with the only goal of the match in the 56th minute when outside back Ryui Akiyama fed Lucas Bordini for the lone goal of the contest in the 56th minute.

The Spartans had the advantage of scoring opportunities in the first half, outshooting CU 10-8 in the opening 45 minutes to a 0-0 tie at the break but goalkeeper Fernando Contreras held strong in his second-straight shutout with six of his seven saves coming in the opening frame.

Clarke would finish with the advantage in total shots at the end of the game at 17-14 with shots on goal finishing at a 7-7 tie, the Pride getting more corner kicks at 8-6 and being whistled for more fouls at 17-11 with only one yellow card per team being handed out.

Following back-to-back ties to open the season, Pride men's soccer will head into conference play with a 3-0-2 record for an undefeated non-conference season for the second-straight year as they went 3-0 in non-conference play in 2022.

Clarke men's soccer will now get into Heart play starting this weekend when they travel to Lamoni, Iowa to open up their conference schedule against Graceland University for a 4:00 p.m. CT start at the John Rasmussen Soccer Complex.
