Pride soar over the Eagles 3-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Clarke University men's soccer team (2-0-2) enjoyed a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon against Judson University (1-2-1).

Two second-half goals helped the Pride put away the Eagles, but the game's first goal came early in the third minute when defenseman Joshua Reddy buried a Luke Persenico corner kick for his first career goal.

The rest of the first half would go back and forth with both teams looking to take advantage of their opportunities. However, it would be difficult to do so as the first 45 minutes of play had five yellow cards, with the home Pride picking up three.

Things calmed down in the second half as Clarke wouldn't be called for a yellow card for the remainder of the contest. In the 60th minute, Persenico picked up his second assist of the game, finding Jonathan Velasquez for his second goal on the season, and in the 87th minute, Hector Medrano scored his first career goal from Alejandro Valverde.

Shots (15-13) and corner kicks (4-3) fell in favor of the Pride, helping CU goalkeeper Fernando Contreras pick up his first win of the year. Contreras, who earned seven wins a year ago and two shutouts, finished this one with two saves.

The Pride men's soccer team will face one more non-conference foe in Missouri Baptist next Tuesday, September 12th beginning at 2 pm.
