Pride Earn Gritty Win Over Judson 1-0

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. – Sophomore Luke Persenico's goal in the 48th minute lifted the Clarke University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Judson University on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 1) at MAC Athletic Complex.

The first half was a feeling out process, as both teams were battling to control the pace. The game went into the locker room scoreless, but Judson lead shots on goal 4-1.

Near the end of the first half at the 38' mark, senior Jake Persenico picked up a red card and gave Judson some momentum going into the second half. The Pride, being down a man were bombarded with an aggressive Judson attack in the second half, but their effort only allowed 3 shots on goal in the second half.

Clarke took advantage of the aggressive play by Judson in the 48th minute when Luke Persenico scored his second goal of the season. The Pride were led by their defenders and sophomore goalkeeper Fernando Contreras as he faced 20 shots (7 on goal).

Clarke men's soccer will remain on the road through non-conference action as they will play next on Sunday, Sept. 4 on the road at Iowa Wesleyan University for a 3:30 p.m. CT kickoff.
