Pride men's soccer earns 4-1 win over Evangel

DUBUQUE, Iowa - For the first time since joining the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the Clarke University men's soccer team earned its third win in conference play with their 4-1 win over Evangel University Saturday evening.

With the game tied at 1-1 at halftime, the Pride were powered by three second half goals to carry them to their sixth overall win of the season and third win inside of the Heart.

CU goals were scored by Jake Persenico in the 24th minute, Luke Persenico in the 49th minute, Wilmer Neal in the 59th minute, and Marco De Rosa in the 85th minute. The Valor scored their lone goal nearly a minute following Jake Persenico's goal as Junior Barboza scored in the 25th minute to tie the game up at 1-1 in the opening half.

With this win, it clinched the first men's and women's soccer doubleheader sweep of the season and their first at Burrows Field since Sept. 29 of last season with both teams earned wins over Graceland University.

The Pride will flip-flop home and road games for the remainder of the regular season as they will next play on Friday, Oct. 15 at No. 7 Missouri Valley at 4:30 p.m. CT.
