Clarke's Mauricio Dos Santos approaching a penalty kick attempt

Pride win intense overtime matchup 5-4 over Benedictine

DUBUQUE, Iowa - In a game that had many ups and downs on both sides of the ball, the Clarke University men's soccer team pulled out a 5-4 win in overtime over Benedictine College on Saturday night.

The Pride took a 2-0 lead into halftime before scoring the first goal of the second half then getting outscored 4-1 over the final 40 minutes of regulation. The Ravens scored goals in the 58th, 70th, and 87th minutes to tie the game at 4-4 and send the game into golden goal overtime.

After a close non-call in the BC box, a penalty was awarded to Clarke after a foul was called in the box on Benedictine's Kanak Masten that sent Mauricio Dos Santos to the penalty spot as Dos Santos would bury the penalty to clinch the victory for CU.

The Clarke goals scored in regulation came from Dimetri Rede in the 13th minute, Eduardo Rivera in the 32nd minute, Lorran De Almeida in the 50th minute, and Gada Ambo in the 57th minute.

Pride men's soccer will play next on the road next Tuesday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face Mount Mercy University at 7:30 p.m. CT.
