Pride suffer tough one-goal loss to Dakota Wesleyan in 2021 season opener

LA CROSSE, Wis. – It wasn't a storybook finish for the Clarke University men's soccer team in head coach Mike Paye's first regular season game at the helm for the Pride as Dakota Wesleyan earned a come-from-behind 3-2 win Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers got on the board first with an early goal in the 10th minute as Rafael Calderon scored past Jan Paule to make it 1-0. Jan Wadsack got CU on the board to tie the game at 1-1 in the 23rd as that score held into halftime.

The Pride took their first lead of the game in the 59th minute with a go-ahead strike from Mauricio Dos Santos as Clarke was able to hold that 2-1 lead for almost 20 minutes.

Dakota Wesleyan was able to strike back to tie and eventually take the lead in the span of less than six minutes as Calderon scored his second of the game in the 77th minute then Jabari Campbell put the Tigers on top 3-2 in the 83rd minute.

All secondary team statistics went to DWU by a small edge as they took 12 total shots to Clarke's 10 with a shots on goal advantage of 8-5 as the Tigers also took five corner kicks to the Pride's three.
