Pride suffer tough road loss to William Woods

FULTON, Mo. - In what looked to be the most important game on the Clarke University men's lacrosse schedule in the 2025 season, the Pride were unable to get any positive momentum in a 23-5 loss on the road to William Woods University on Saturday afternoon.

After giving up the first goal of the game on an Alex Beard unassisted tally just over a minute into the game, the Owls went on a 12-0 scoring run that spanned from the 12:02 mark in the first quarter all the way to the final minute of the first half when CU got their second goal of the game on Henry La Belle's 27th goal of the season with 42 seconds left.

Leading 13-2 at the halftime break, William Woods would go on to outscore the Pride 5-3 in the third quarter and 5-0 in the final period of the game to run away from Clarke for the 18-goal victory.

Beard finished with a goal and an assist to tie for the team-high in point with Abraham Agundez who also had a goal and assist as La Belle, Justyse White, and Isaac Margala all had one goal on the day.

Agundez along with Josh Pote combined to win 19 of the 29 faceoffs the tandem took in the game but WWU goalie Drew Stubblefield made 12 saves on the 17 shots on goal he faced from the Pride as they weren't able to use those faceoff wins to produce more than 21 total shots in the game compared to the Owls firing 52 at the goalie duo of Jack Fritz and Jake Weller.

With Missouri Baptist University earning a win over Ottawa University later in the evening on Saturday, this Clarke vs. William Woods matchup determining the sixth and final spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, despite all teams having one game remaining on their regular season schedule as the Owls moved to 4-4 in conference play while earning the head-to-head tiebreaker over Clarke and the Spartans moving two games ahead of CU with their 5-3 Heart record.

Pride men's lacrosse will close out the 2025 campaign on their home field hosting Missouri Baptist for a 1:00 p.m. CT scheduled opening faceoff on Wednesday, Apr. 16 at Burrows Field.
