Bees' hot start dooms Pride in 18-4 road loss

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Getting back to Heart of America Athletic Conference play following four-straight non-conference matchups, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team fell on the road to St. Ambrose University by a final of 18-4.

The Pride suffered from a strong start from their opponent as the Fighting Bees outscored CU by six goals in each of the first two quarters including a 6-0 first that was followed by an 8-2 second to lead 14-2 after 30 minutes of action.

It was a more defensive second half that saw SAU build their lead after the third to 17-3 and a stingy defensive fourth led to a 1-1 period where St. Ambrose closed out their double-digit victory.

Makaile Shaddix for the Bees led all scorers with five goals and added two assists for a seven-point night as his teammate Michael Shakerin outscored him with eight points on three goals and five assists while Tyler Yetka and Jacob Blair both added two goals apiece.

For Clarke, Conner Cole scored three of the four goals as he scored on all but one of his shot attempts in the game while freshman Tiequaries Lewis scored his first career goal for the Pride in the second quarter.

CU goalie Jack Fritz was a busy man in net and still was able to make more saves than goals he allowed, making a stop on 20 shots for his third 20-save performance of the season and the fifth-straight game he's recorded more saves than goals allowed.

Clarke men's lacrosse will return home to Burrows Field to host Midland University this Thursday for another 7:00 p.m. CT start time following a 4:00 p.m. CT women's lacrosse start.
