Pride start strong but drop home game to William Penn

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Starting a stretch of three-straight home games, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team dropped their Monday afternoon matchup 19-4 to William Penn University at Burrows Field.

The Pride and Statesmen were separated by just a single goal after the first quarter as CU struck first on a Tucker La Belle goal but William Penn would answer with three straight to make it 3-1 before two unanswered Clarke goals from Conner Cole and Kurt Springly tied it up at 3-3, but a goal with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter broke the tie in favor of WPU to make it 4-3 heading into the second.

William Penn would go on to outscore the Pride 15-1 over the remainder of the game starting with a 6-0 second period as the final goal for CU was scored by La Belle in the third quarter to make the scrore 11-4 at the time but the Statesmen ran away with the final.

Breck Putzier led the scoring for WPU with five goals and four assists as Boston Romero and Brady Treloar both added four goals apiece against Clarke's goalie Kendrik Scherer, who himself had a busy game to make 18 saves on the total of 37 shots faced.

Clarke men's lacrosse will continue on their homestand with a Friday matchup against Saint Mary's at Burrows Field scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. CT start time following the conclusion of the women's game at 4:00 p.m. CT.
